New Book Talk with NW Author Clare Hodgson Meeker: Saturday, October 5 at 3 pm

October 5 at 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Youth Services is pleased to host Northwest author Clare Hodgson Meeker introducing her new children’s book Growing Up Gorilla, How a Zoo Baby Brought her Family Together, a true animal story about the birth of Yola at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle in 2015. Within minutes of Yola’s birth, her mother, a 19-year old gorilla named Nadiri, walked away from the baby rather than picking her up to care for her. Was Nadiri rejecting the baby or did she just not know what to do?   Ms Meeker writes of the dedicated staff at Woodland Park Zoo working to bond Yola with her mother and incorporate the baby into the zoo’s existing gorilla family.

Clare Hodgson Meeker is an award-winning author of true animal stories, biographies, folktales, picture books, and chapter books for elementary school-age children. She also teaches writing in the schools and writing for children to adults.

Join us for a discussion of this wonderful new book followed by refreshments.  Ms Meeker will have copies of the book available for purchase.

This new nonfiction book is appropriate for children aged 8 to 12.  We welcome children and caregivers for this special event at the library.
