Stan Mayhew
President
Karen and I moved to San Juan Island full time in 2012 following my retirement as a county and municipal judge and as a practicing attorney in Fairplay, Colorado. We keep busy around our property on the island. In addition to my volunteer work with the Friends of the Library, I also enjoy volunteering at the Library checking and shelving books and doing book mending. I also volunteer at the San Juan Island Food Co-op. For fun, I sing with the San Juan Singers and the Island Chordsmen Plus.
Nancy Sheplor
Secretary
Nancy Sheplor has been enthusiastic about libraries since junior high school in Texas. This is when she became a library aide, shelving books, helping class mates find titles and assisting the librarian. Her first 'adult' book was "Robinson Crusoe." An avid reader and library enthusiast all her life, Nancy received her school library endorsement and lived happily ever after in libraries. She worked in Texas, Alaska and here in Friday Harbor. You can find her processing new materials, shelving and straightening and occasionally assisting patrons, even now. Giving a helping hand with Friends of the Library is yet another way to support our library.
Judy Bentzen
Treasurer
A salty accountant with a love for books and libraries sums up Judy's life pretty well. Served as a “Tugboat Annie” aboard a salvage tug; actively worked several boatbuilding/marina operations; raced competitively with husband Arne aboard several class sailboats; employed as an accountant throughout her life.
