San Juan Island Writes:
Local Authors' Works on
Display at the Public Library
Titles by dozens of local (San Juan Island
) authors are displayed in the foyer to the San Juan Island
Library.
Three of the books are new. Selections
include The Beluga Café: My Strange Adventure with Art, Music
and Whales in the Far North by longtime local author Jim
Nollman. Corina Tettinger's new book Passing the Flame: A
Beadmaker's Guide to Detail and Design is a beautiful new
manual on how to make glass beads by one of the world's finest
practitioners of the art, who happens also to be an island
resident. Finally, local personality Pat O'Day has authored a
new memoir
It Was All just Rock 'n Roll: A Journey to
the Center of the Radio and Concert Universe.
"It was a lot of fun putting this
together, seeing the diversity of our community and the
interests of authors," said library director Lauren Stara.
Library staff prepared the exhibit with input from many longtime
island residents who helped remember authors. "I took Jim
Nollman Beluga Café
off the shelf to prepare for the display, and found it so
captivating I read all of it over the weekend," said library
outreach coordinator Beth Helstien. "We have something for
everyone here at the library, from toddlers to seniors," Stara
said.
Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM to 8
PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 1 PM to 5 PM.
Library cards are free to island residents with proof of
residency.
