Library
A new computer is available at the San Juan Island Library
featuring special software. The computer features LARGE PRINT
for the vision
impaired, with a split screen and adjustable magnification. A
variety of foreign language formats is available, including
European languages such as
French, German, Dutch and Spanish, and Russian, as well as
Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The computer even has a
separate keyboard for
Spanish! The new computer comes loaded with MS Office 2000
software featuring Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and now including
Access and Publisher.
Encarta software, including Encyclopedia, Dictionary, Africana
and World Atlas are also ready to use from the desktop. The
interactive features
like searching and zooming make using the atlas especially
rewarding. Additional Microsoft programs previously unavailable
include Flight, Mars, and Whales.
The new computer is part of a program of the Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation to support computers in libraries. Visit the
library today and try the new computer, thanks to collaboration
between the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Gateway Computers
and the San Juan Island Library.
Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 AM to 6
PM, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM to 8 PM, Saturday from 10 AM
to 5 PM and
Sunday from 1 PM to 5 PM. Library cards are free to island
residents with proof of residency.
