Young Authors Fiction Contest
The San Juan Island Library is
kicking off its second annual Young Authors Fiction Contest.
Writers must start the story by finishing this sentence."The
minute I stepped off the plane I realized what I had gotten
myself into." The contest rules are that the submission be no
more than 600 words, only one submission per person, typed with
12 point font that is easy to read, double spaced, on 8 ˝ X 11
paper. Author name must not be on the actual story, instead a
cover sheet should be used. The submission deadline is April 30th,
2004 when the library closes. The awards ceremony will be held
on Wednesday, May 19th at 6:30 p.m. at the San Juan
Island Library.
"This is a great opportunity for young authors to show off their
creativity and win some great prizes," said Jacky Elder the Teen
Library Assistant at the San Juan Island Library. A panel of
local authors will judge all submissions. There are a slew of
wonderful donated prizes to win from the Palace Theater,
Paradise Bowling, Jimmy's Paradise Café, The Big Store, Radio
Shack, Audio on Demand, San Juan Taxi, Downriggers, and the
Friends of the Library. We are extremely thankful to all the
businesses that donated prizes to the contest said Elder, It
wouldn't have been possible without them."
The
library puts on the Young Authors Fiction contest to give kids
an opportunity to show off their writing and have it judged by a
panel of published writers. "It gives them an outlet to express
themselves and see that writing really is cool, " said Elder.
Cover sheets should include name, address, phone number, and
grade level. All submissions can be dropped off at the San Juan
Island Library or mailed to:
