The San Juan
Island Library District (SJILD) accepts donation of
high-performance computer networking hardware from Adaptec, Inc.
The San Juan Island Library District today
accepted the donation of three high-performance network switches
and one high-performance network router from Adaptec, Inc. of
Bellevue, Washington. The library will use these devices, valued
at $2,000, to provide faster data connections between its
networked computers. Wade Guidry, formerly of Adaptec, Inc. and
now a part-time employee of the library says of the donation,
"This donation fits very well with our recently expanded
computer network. The switches will replace older repeater hub
technology and help maintain our network performance as the load
from Internet activities and CD-ROM applications increases. The
router will help direct traffic between the library and the
Internet."
Adaptec, Inc., headquartered in Milpitas,
California, purchased locally owned Cogent Data Technologies,
Inc. in 1996. Several current and former San Juan county
residents work for Adaptec, Inc.
