The Library makes available to the public a laserjet printer with duplex (double-sided) capability. The library charges an at-cost fee for use of this printer: 10 cents per 8.5 x 11 page.
We also offer mobile printing from your laptop or mobile device.
The library makes available to the public a high-volume copy machine with sheet feeding, collation, and multiple size support. The library charges an at-cost fee for use of this copy machine: 10 cents per 8.5 x 11 copy and 20 cents per 11 x 17 copy.
The Library’s Makerbot 3-D printer is on display in the small study room, printing demonstration designs. At this time designs are only created by Library staff, with a view to opening this up to the public in the very near future. Print jobs will cost $1.00 each.
As its plastic filament, the San Juan Island Library will be using PLA which is a corn starch product, is compostable and non-toxic. It does smell slightly like popcorn so it will be housed in a well-ventilated area.
The San Juan Island Library sees digital literacy as an important part of its mission, and looks forward to adding 3-D printing to its existing literacy programs such as Tech Tuesdays and ongoing computer classes.
