Logging in to My Account

The Login page lets you log in to your individual user account (called "My Account"). Your user account is a record of your personal information, any items you have currently checked out, any holds you have requested, blocks on your account, and any lists you have created or saved. Your Library Card # is the last six digits of the number below the barcode on your library card. Your PIN # is the last 4 digits of your phone number.

To log in to My Account

  • Go to the Online Library Catalog at http://catalog.sjlib.org
  • Click the My Account tab or click the Login icon in the top right hand corner of the window.
  • Enter the last six digits from your library card in the Library Card # field .
  • If prompted, enter your PIN in the PIN field.
  • Click Login.
  • Information Portal displays the Account Overview page listing the different functions you can access from your user account.
  • When you are finished, log out of your user account.

Viewing your account


Your user account (called "My Account") is a collection of information specific to you. When you login to your account, you are presented with your account overview detailing your user profile, items you have currently checked out, the status of any holds you have placed or hold requests that are pending, fines or other blocks to your library account, and any saved lists. To keep your information private, only you and your library can access your account with your Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Click the links on the My Account Tab Bar to see details about your account:

Checked Out
This link lets you view a list of library items you have currently checked out. It also provides the option to renew checked out items before they are due.

Holds
This link lets you view the status of items that you have requested. You can also activate, suspend, or cancel a hold request.

Fines/Blocks
This link lets you view any fines, fees, charges, messages, or other information that might block your borrowing privileges.

Profile
This link lets you view information in your user profile. Your user profile is a record of contact information such as your name, home address, home telephone number, and e-mail address. If you find information in your profile is in error, please contact the Library.


Viewing checked out items


Information Portal lets you view a list of the items you have currently checked out. You can renew items from this list.

To view checked out items

  • Log in to your user account.
  • Click the Items Out link.
  • Information Portal displays a list of all the items that are currently checked out on your account. Each item is listed by title and may include specific information about the item such as the location from which the item was checked out, the item's call number, the date the item is due, and the time the item is due.
  • If you want to sort the list, click the name of the column you want to sort by.
  • Information Portal sorts the list.
  • When you are finished, log out of your user account.

Renewing a library item


As you view a list of the items you have currently checked out, you can renew any items from the list.

To renew a library item

  • Log in to your user account.
  • Click the Checked Out link.
  • Information Portal displays a list of items you currently have checked out.
  • Do one of these options:
  • To renew all the items in the list, mark the box to the left of the Title column.
  • Mark the box next to the item(s) you want to renew.
  • Click Renew.
  • Information Portal renews the item and then displays a new due date for the item in the Due Date column.
  • When you are finished, log out of your user account.


Requesting a hold on a library item


After doing a search, you may want to see if a particular item is available for checkout. You can do this by requesting the item. If the item is available, Information Portal directs you to check the shelves. If the item is not available, you can make a hold request. The library will then hold the item for you when it becomes available.

To make a hold request on a library item

  • Search for a library item.
  • Click Request Item.
  • If the item is available, Information Portal displays this message: "This title should be available. Please check the shelves."
  • Log in to your user account.
  • Information Portal displays the Request Confirmation page.
  • If available, choose a notification method from the drop-down list.
  • If available, choose a pickup location from the drop-down list.
  • Enter any additional information in the Comment field.
  • Click Request.
  • Information Portal displays this message: "Your request has successfully been placed."
  • Do one of these options:
    • Click Return to Searching to return to your search results.
    • Click Logout and Return to log out of your account and continue searching.

Viewing your hold requests


Information Portal lets you view a list of your hold requests that have been filled and are waiting to be picked up, as well as hold requests that are still pending. You can cancel an existing hold request, as well as activate or suspend a pending hold request.

To view your hold requests

  • Log in to your user account.
  • Click the Holds link.
  • Information Portal displays a list of all the items that you have requested.
  • If you want to sort the list, click the name of the column you want to sort by.
  • Information Portal sorts the list.
  • When you are finished, log out of your user account.

Activating or suspending a hold request


You can change the status of one or more hold requests by activating or suspending the hold request. Suspending a request temporarily defers it until you decide to activate it or cancel it. You can activate any suspended hold request when you are ready to check out the item.

To activate or suspend a hold request

  • Log in to your user account.
  • Click the Holds link.
  • Information Portal displays a list of all the items that you have requested.
  • Do one of these options:
    • To change the status of all the items in the list, mark the box to the left of the Title column.
    • Mark the box next to the item(s) for which you want to change the status.
  • Click Change Status.
  • When you are finished, log out of your user account.
