Everyday Life on San Juan Island a Century before the Pig War
November 10, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
Join us as Kwiaht presents on the early days of San Juan Island.
Thousands of people in several large villages were living on San Juan Island in the 1750s, in a world of sail-borne trade in woven woolens, sugar loaves, and dried seafoods, wracked by increasingly violent slave raids launched by neighboring coastal peoples. What was life like, and how did they manage to live well with a technology of stone, bone, wood, and wool without metal or machines? Time-travel with us to the century before European settlement.
