Donations to the library are tax-deductible, and widespread community support enables the library to provide programs beyond those supported by tax revenues. There are many ways to support the library directly. The library promotes both magazine and book sponsorship.

Magazine Sponsorship
Many titles are “sponsored” on an annual basis. Sponsors pay the library’s cost for an annual subscription and receive recognition on the cover. The librarian selects the titles to be in the library, and sponsors may choose from the titles that currently do not have a sponsor. We budget approximately $10,000.00 per year for serials, but donation offset this amount significantly

Author Sponsorship
Do you end up buying new books when your favorite author comes out with a new title because you hate to wait on the “hold list” at the library? You can solve this problem by sponsoring your favorite author, and the library will purchase an additional copy of sponsored author’s books so that more people may read popular books simultaneously. The sponsor gets to be first in line for one copy of the book, and the book receives a book plate noting that it is part of the Sponsored Author program.

Memorial Gifts
A donation to the library is a time-honored way to remember a loved-one. Memorials include the purchase of fiction and nonfiction books, audio books and videos. Larger donations might be directed at capital improvements or programs at the discretion of the director and the Trustees.

Remember the Library in Your Will
Leave a legacy with a gift from your estate. The library accepts gifts of stock, real estate, as well as insurance of cash from assets. Join the Friends of the Library
Friends of the San Juan Island Library is a separate non-profit organization whose mission is to raise funds to support programs of the San Juan Island Library. Friends is governed by a separate board of directors, and contributions to that organization are also tax-deductible.
